Resumo

The world is facing various problems that reflect the consequences of capitalism, colonialism, and patriarchy, leading Science Education researchers to support a growing movement in the field: the sociopolitical turn. For these scholars, there is an emphasis on the need for research to take a stand on the multiple inequalities that affect the world. In this context, some authors emphasize the importance of the History of Science, recognizing that this approach can contribute to both reclaiming our cultural heritage and understanding how knowledge is constructed, recovering what has been discarded or overlooked. It is through the intersection between the History of Science and Science Education that we seek to understand how this articulation has been developing from sociopolitical perspectives. To this end, we begin by gathering theoretical frameworks that help us reflect on knowledge and educational approaches committed to Social Justice. We then analyze how this articulation has addressed sociopolitical themes. Through research conducted in three phases, we identified several findings about this movement. First, we observed that it has gained traction in recent years within the database analyzed, especially due to the mobilization triggered by the pandemic. We also noted the importance of researcher diversity in shaping this articulation and the central role of gender-related themes throughout the movement. Based on the insights gained from these studies, we present several implications grounded in our theoretical framework. First, we emphasize the need to formulate guiding questions that support the construction of historical narratives capable of revealing the diverse conditions under which science is produced, the various social actors involved, and the contexts in which they participated. Next, we stress the importance of constructing alternative historical narratives within our field. Finally, we argue that researchers must engage in a process of critical consciousness and praxis. All these implications aim to strengthen the movement and prevent Social Justice from becoming an empty concept within our articulation.
