RAÇA, TRABALHO E RESSIGNIFICAÇÃO DIASPÓRICA: A SOCIEDADE DOS ARTISTAS DE NAZARÉ (BAHIA, SÉCULO XIX)

Abstract

This research has the purpose of investigating the brotherhood called Sociedade MontePio dos Artistas Nazarenos, in the city of Nazaré, in the province of Bahia, during the second half of the 19th century. We aim to discuss what kind of confraternity it is; what the members’ professional, racial and gender profiles are; how they disseminated and protected their knowledge. For the construction of this work, we are going to rely on material about brotherhoods, in particular the official ones, as well as the book of Proceedings of this specific brotherhood. The underlying problem that guides this research is how the resignification of black existence took place in the territory of modern slavery, in dialogue with Paul Gilroy, from a decolonial perspective. We believe that studying the particularities of the African diaspora in Brazil gives new meaning to and strengthens the anti-racist struggle

A pesquisa apresentada tem o propósito de investigar a irmandade denominada Sociedade MontePio dos Artistas Nazarenos, na cidade de Nazaré, na província da Bahia, durante a segunda metade do século XIX. Deseja-se saber qual a especificidade dessa confraria, se devocional ou de ofício; qual o perfil profissional, racial e de gênero dos integrantes; como divulgavam e protegiam os seus saberes. Para a construção desse trabalho, vamos utilizar a bibliografia que trata das irmandades, em particular as de ofício, bem como o livro de Atas da irmandade em questão. O problema de fundo que norteia essa pesquisa é a problemática de como se deu a ressignificação da existência negra, em território de escravidão moderna, dialogando com Paul Gilroy, em perspectiva decolonial. Acreditamos que estudar as particularidades da diáspora africana no Brasil ressignifica e fortalece a luta antirracista
