Transportation and health are social rights guaranteed by the Brazilian Constitution to all citizens and which are often intertwined. Urban mobility, for example, is a key element in allowing people to access basic health services. For this reason, the objective of this study was to analyze issues related to active transport and health in Baixada Fluminense (RJ) through three articles. The first article conducted a bibliometric analysis that sought the main works related to bicycles, cycling and built environment, and found that the main results were works that related these topics to health and physical activity. The article also showed that publications on cycling and built environment are growing, especially in developed countries, but Latin America, particularly Brazil, has little relevance in the debate. With these findings, the second article was outlined, which investigated urban mobility in Baixada Fluminense through spatial syntax analysis, evaluating the road network of the 13 cities in the region. By analyzing the aspects of centrality, integration, and intelligibility of the cities' roads, it was possible to compare the cities of Rio de Janeiro state with cities that are references in urban mobility, such as Amsterdam and Copenhagen. The results of this article demonstrated that some cities have high potential for walkability, as they have highly integrated and connected roads, while other cities have a road network that is unfavorable to active transport, favoring travel by car, demonstrating heterogeneity in the region. The last article sought to analyze in more detail one of these cities in Baixada Fluminense, evaluating through an index the potential for cycling mobility in the center of Nova Iguaçu for access to basic health units. The article demonstrated that when considering the calm roads in the region as cycling roads, the potential for cycling mobility was much greater than if only considering the city's cycle paths and cycle lanes. This shows that promoting traffic awareness and improving road infrastructure in areas where people travel the most can help increase citizens' adoption of active transport and thus make the city healthier and more sustainable.en
