The present dissertation has as object of research the samba of the island of Matarandiba, represented by the women of the group Voa Voa Maria. It proposes to investigate the local Samba de Roda constituting itself as the most proud supporter of all the culture of Matarandiba, having these women as protagonists in the rescue of this memory, from the perspective of decolonial studies. It focuses on the field of history/historiography, in the fields of temporal and territorial disputes, through reports and experiences that, evidence and diverse connections of the samba de roda Voa Voa Maria in this island community, as a powerful engine of collective empowerment and a new meaning of actions and Afrocentric ancestral knowledge. It also aims to contextualize antagonistic memories, full of subjectivities that intercomplement and support more remote reminiscences, consubstantiated with traditions of the people of the sea of Matarandiba, their children, their scenes and the rhythms of life, in an original samba that comes and goes in the floods and tidal ebbs. An analytical tone is proposed that attenuates, with breath and vigor, the cultural epistemicide historically planned by the European colonizer in relation to the cultural heritage of black and indigenous peoples, using the wisdom and intricate sciences of these peoples of the sea, produced from the experiences in the mangroves, in the forests and in the secular experiences of the wild tides. Also based on intermediations with other academic works, such as theses, articles and dissertations, in addition to a specific bibliographical review, this study brings in its structure, the temporal marks of the samba of Matarandiba, its territorial anchorages and the interconnections of scenes between present, past and future, extended with the patrimonialization of samba de roda and the rescue of the genre embodied as Voa Voa Maria.en
