In recent years, the Internet has been a crucial tool for minority groups to challenge dominant narratives and construct their own stories. Traditionally excluded from mainstream media, feminist, LGBTQIAPN+, black and indigenous groups use online platforms to question and dispute hegemonic representations. The creation of these narratives has symbolic value, as it combats centuries of silencing and erasure of identities. This paper discusses how communication has historically reinforced the power of whiteness (BENTO, 2022), promoting negative stereotypes about the black population. However, the democratization of the Internet has offered an opportunity to break these patterns, such as the way in which black influencers have shared positive and empowering representations through their experiences, challenging the social imagery commonly attributed to the black population. A new visual discourse of black men and women is seen as a form of social existence that breaks centuries of silencing imposed by hegemony. The main objective of the work is to analyze black women's content on Instagram related to black female empowerment (BERTH, 2020), investigating how the production of imagetic discourses by successful black women influences and shapes representation (HALL, 2016) in the imaginary of other black women. Some questions guide the research: how do successful black women construct visual representations on social media about the meanings of “becoming black” (SOUZA, 1983)? How can these visual representations offer positive references about being black in society? The methodology adopted is qualitative and exploratory, with a theoretical review and analysis of images from the Instagram accounts of successful black businesswomen with lifestyles considered luxurious. The study seeks to contribute to investigations into the effects of media representations, especially on Instagram, on the (re)construction of social representations, on the empowerment and self-esteem of black women, as well as on their worldviews and perceptions of representativeness.en
