CLARA JUVENTUDE BRANCA: REFLEXÕES ACERCA DAS NARRATIVAS DA IDENTIDADE RACIAL DA BRANQUIDADE

Abstract

This research aims to raise reflections on the condition of privilege of white racial identity, specifically regarding youth, supported by contributions about youth (MARGULLIS & URESTTI, 1996). Recognizing that white people are rarely placed in the place of the subject of study, and we see in this the need to problematize this place of security and plenitude. When observing the Brazilian social context, youth, which even aligned with more tolerant ideas, can play different roles, moving away from or reinforcing the narcissistic pact of whiteness (BENTO, 2002) and whiteness (PIZA, 2005). Hence, the importance of realizing the absence or not of regulations and/or hierarchization influencing the relationship with the “different/other”. In addition, the work looks at white fragility (DIANGELO, 2018) whose reactions in some whites may not respond with anger but may still isolate themselves through claims that they have no need to engage with the content because "they already had a class on the subject” or “already know it”. The understanding of identity starts from the point of view of Hall (2008), who presents white racial identity as relational, operational and constructed by social interaction, especially in the context of Brazil, due to the political and historical process of whitening that subjugated the society. In this way, we were interested in investigating whether young whites were able to understand the violence that whitening and the reduction to essentialism of the discourse of equality engender as mechanisms that act to disguise the discourses that cover up racism and establish the maintenance of subordinate relations (silencing/absence as a subject) and supremacy. To make the research viable, the focus of the investigation was on white youth in the specific context of the action of recalling the production of a documentary signed and directed by them, whose objective was to give visibility to the silenced voices in society. The narratives produced were treated to investigate the construction of meanings of identity and analyze the positioning, in order to ratify or refute the maintenance of the place of power of whiteness.

Esta pesquisa visa suscitar reflexões acerca da condição de privilégios da identidade racial branca, especificamente no que se refere à juventude, apoiada nas contribuições acerca da juventude (MARGULLIS; URESTTI, 1996), reconhecendo que a raça branca raramente é posta em lugar de sujeito de estudo, e se vê nisso a necessidade de problematizar esse lugar de segurança e plenitude. Ao observar o contexto social brasileiro, a juventude, mesmo alinhada a ideias mais tolerantes, pode desempenhar distintos papéis, afastando-se ou reforçando o pacto narcísico da branquitude (BENTO, 2002) e da branquidade (PIZA, 2005), sendo importante perceber e destacar a ausência ou não da hierarquização nas narrativas dos sujeitos investigados, influenciando sua relação com o “diferente/outro”. Além disso, o trabalho observa a fragilidade branca (DIANGELO, 2018), manifesta em reações que podem não ser de raiva por parte de alguns brancos, mas que ainda podem isolar-se por meio de alegações de que não têm necessidade de se engajar com o conteúdo porque “já tiveram uma aula sobre o assunto” ou “já sabem disso”. O entendimento sobre raça parte do ponto de vista de Hall (2008), que apresenta a identidade racial como relacional, operacional e construída pela interação social, sobretudo no contexto do Brasil, em virtude do processo político e histórico de branqueamento que subjugou a sociedade. Dessa maneira, interessou-nos investigar se os jovens brancos conseguiram compreender a violência que o branqueamento e a redução ao essencialismo do discurso de igualdade engendram como mecanismos que atuam de forma a dissimular os discursos que acobertam o racismo e estabelecem a manutenção das relações de subalternidade (silenciamento/ausência como sujeito) e supremacias. Para viabilização da pesquisa, o foco da investigação deu-se na juventude branca no contexto específico da ação de rememorar a produção de um documentário assinado e dirigido por ela, cujo objetivo foi dar visibilidade às vozes silenciadas na sociedade. As narrativas obtidas foram analisadas a fim de investigar a construção de sentidos de identidade e o posicionamento subjetivo, de forma a perceber o afastamento ou aproximação da manutenção do lugar de poder e privilégio da branquidade
