CIÊNCIA E ARTE EM UM CONTEXTO HISTÓRICO-CULTURAL: A CULTURA DA QUARTA DIMENSÃO NO INÍCIO DO SÉCULO XX E AS AMPLAS POSSIBILIDADES DE DIÁLOGO ENTRE ARTE E CIÊNCIA EM UMA DISCIPLINA NA LICENCIATURA EM FÍSICA

Abstract

In the present work, we seek to structure the theoretical foundation necessary for the construction of a science and art proposal for a discipline of physics. We chose the concept of the fourth dimension as the central theme to discuss some elements that dialogued with this theme in the late nineteenth century and first half of the twentieth century. This is because we realize that the concept of the fourth dimension was present in different areas of knowledge, in addition to the Theory of Relativity, but also in the philosophy of hyperspace, in science fiction literature and in the plastic arts in this period. In structuring the theoretical foundation, we sought a concept of culture that was suitable for our proposal, we described our elementary principles/objectives for such activity, we raised the fundamental didactic-pedagogical and historical-epistemological requirements for approaches that deal with science and art and have as basis the cultural-historical perspective that we adopt. Finally, we describe our ideas and considerations for the use of these discussions in a didactic proposal for a physics discipline and we also present some important questions that can be answered by conducting a field research, while carrying out this didactic proposal. Thus, we converged this thesis to the defense that the proposal of science and art, in a cultural-historical perspective, can represent a significant way to promote a more comprehensive and contextualized formation for physics degree students. We argue that the science and art of a given period must be discussed in their original cultural context. We understand that this requirement can contribute to discussions on the Nature of Science, to present science as a culture and help dilute the still persistent vision of Two Cultures

No presente trabalho, buscamos estruturar a fundamentação teórica necessária para a construção de uma proposta de ciência e arte para uma disciplina de física. Elegemos o conceito de quarta dimensão como o tema central para discutirmos alguns elementos que dialogaram com este tema o final do século XIX e primeira metade do século XX. Isso por percebermos que o conceito de quarta dimensão se fez presente em diferentes áreas do conhecimento, além da Teoria da Relatividade, mas também na filosofia do hiperespaço, na literatura de ficção científica e nas artes plásticas neste período. Na estruturação da fundamentação teórica, buscamos um conceito de cultura que fosse adequado para nossa proposta, descrevemos nossos princípios/objetivos elementares para tal atividade, levantamos os requisitos didático-pedagógicos e histórico-epistemológicos fundamentais para abordagens que tratem de ciência e arte e tenham como base a perspectiva histórico-cultural que adotamos. Por fim, descrevemos nossas ideias e ponderações para a utilização destas discussões em uma proposta didática para uma disciplina de física e apresentamos, também, algumas questões importantes que poderão ser respondidas com a realização de uma pesquisa de campo, durante a realização desta proposta didática. Assim, convergimos esta tese para a defesa de que a proposta de ciência e arte, em uma perspectiva histórico-cultural, pode representar uma forma significativa de promover uma formação mais abrangente e contextualizada para os alunos de licenciatura em física. Defendemos que a ciência e a arte de determinada época devem ser discutidas em seu contexto cultural original. Entendemos que esta exigência pode contribuir para discussões de Natureza da Ciência, para apresentar a ciência como cultura e ajudar a diluir a visão, ainda persistente, de Duas Culturas.
