In a global scenario marked by growing socio-environmental challenges, such as climate change, inequality, and environmental degradation, science education plays a central role in developing critical and active citizens. In this sense, educational practices that integrate Science, Technology, Society (STS), and Environment (STSE) emerge as strategies for connecting school knowledge to real-world contexts, enhancing citizenship development and community development. This empirical master's research is grounded in the Community-Project-Based Learning (CPbL) perspective with elementary school students from a rural school. The project was developed in a multi-grade class whose researcher served as a teacher. Anchored in the essential principles of PBL and the views of John Dewey and Paulo Freire, advocates of learning through experience and social engagement, this work aims to understand how the CPbL educational experience empowers these students to analyze community problems and create solutions that transcend the school environment and lead to social transformation. For this investigation, the project was structured into five stages outlined in a continuum of experiences, aiming to develop students' progressive autonomy: stage 1: building maker skills and design thinking; stage 2: "Mining" the problem – reading the reality; stage 3: thinking about the problem and developing solutions; stage 4: prototyping; and stage 5: social spillover. By contextualizing science teaching within the students' realities, the project promoted the identification and analysis of local socio-environmental problems, breaking with the naturalization of adverse conditions and encouraging children's protagonism. The process demonstrated students' ownership of the project, overcoming the execution of instructional stages and building autonomous connections between the school project and real-life community situations. This journey channeled the generation of a product that went beyond applicable school knowledge and was effectively implemented in the community, relying on students to expand the community's network of participation in the selective waste collection initiative. The research proves that children are capable of discussing CTSA topics and participating in solutions to real problems, experiencing active citizenship from an early age, with responsibility for social and environmental well-being. The manifestation of social spillover as a result of CPbL demonstrates that schools, by acting in a dialogic and connected manner with the community, not only enrich students' critical civic development but can also drive solutions with real social impact, consolidating itself as a space for social innovation and local transformation, generating social technologies from school projects.en
