NEM LADINO, NEM ZUMBI, NEM PAI JOÃO: UMA CONTRIBUIÇÃO PARA O ESTUDO DO NEGRO NA SOCIEDADE DO SEGUNDO REINADO A PARTIR DA TRAJETÓRIA DE ANDRÉ REBOUÇAS

Abstract

The present academic work aims to analyze some conceptions that guided the construction of some narratives about the trajectory of the engineer André Pinto Rebouças. Many researchers study André due to the notoriety he achieved in his time, both for his technical capacity and for the role he played in the Brazilian Abolitionist movement. The focus of this research covers a fact that occurred in the period between the years 1866 and 1871. These years correspond, respectively, to the time when he was hired to manage the hydraulic works at the Customs Docks and the year of his demission. The cause of his dismissal from the management of the works has often been related to predominantly political and ideological factors, with the hypothesis of the influence of color prejudice (racism) being avoided or removed by most authors. We concentrated our efforts on analyzing this possibility from a sentence after the day of his resignation.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar algumas concepções que orientaram a construção de algumas das narrativas sobre a trajetória do engenheiro André Pinto Rebouças. Rebouças é um personagem histórico muito estudado devido a notoriedade que alcançou em seu tempo tanto pela sua capacidade técnica quanto pelo papel que desempenhou no movimento Abolicionista brasileiro. O recorte temporal deste trabalho abrange um fato ocorrido no período entre os anos de 1866 e 1871. Esses anos correspondem, respectivamente, ao de sua contratação para gerência das obras hidráulicas das Docas da Alfândega e o ano de sua demissão. A causa de sua demissão da gerência das obras tem sido relacionada frequentemente a fatores predominantemente políticos e ideológicos, sendo a hipótese da influência do preconceito de cor evitada ou afastada pela maioria dos autores. Concentramos nossos esforços em analisar essa possibilidade a partir de uma frase após o dia de sua demissão.
