The search for new energy sources to meet growing global demand has made it necessary to prospect oil in deep waters, where semi-submersible platforms are supported locally by anchoring systems made up of several components. As they undergo to dynamic loads due to the weather, wind and waves, the study of fatigue behavior of materials used in these components is very important. Although welding is a manufacturing process widely used in several segments to enable the implementation of complex projects with reasonable costs, this does not happen in the anchoring systems, where there is strong resistance to the application of welding as an industrial solution, due to the lack of technical knowledge of the fatigue behavior of welded joints, on anchoring components. Thus higher production and maintenance costs are added to the anchoring operation by unnecessary scrapping of components. To overcome the problem of obtaining data with reasonable deadlines, alternative techniques have been implemented to evaluate the fatigue behavior of materials, specially welded joints. In this scenario, the present thesis aims to study the fatigue behavior of highstrength materials using non-traditional techniques with the aid of thermography, in order to allow adequate data to be obtained in reduced times. These techniques are based on the effect of thermo-elasto-plastic coupling and use non-contact surface temperature measurement equipment based on infrared radiation emission measurement. Conventional tensile tests, static and cyclic fatigue tests monitored by thermography were carried out, on a base metal and a high-strength weld metal, to study the performance of materials with differences in microstructural homogeneity that may interfere with fatigue properties. The weld metal was selected to meet the properties required for anchoring grade R4 components. The results showed that the thermographic technique used allows obtaining the fatigue limit and estimating S-N curves with values equivalent to those generated by conventional techniques with a significant reduction in time and material. Additionally, the mechanical and fatigue behavior of the weld metal studied was similar to same grade base metals used in anchoring components, characterizing that the welded joint can be indicated as a possibility for application in the anchoring segment.en
