dc.description.abstract“Queer mother”: racism and sexism in the soap opera O outro lado do paraíso, is a study that seeks to understand and analyze how the categories race, racism, gender and sexuality were articulated in the plot of the soap opera O outro lado do paraíso by Walcyr Carrasco, a production shown by Rede Globo in 2017. For this, the character Cido played by actor Rafael Zulu is taken as the central corpus, transversely and being transversalized by other black and/or LGBTQIA+ characters who make up the plot and have their condition of humanity degraded by an orbital system racist and sexist. For this, the concepts of intersectionality and images of thought control by Patrícia Hill Collins and the theory of recognition of thought by Frantz Fanon were used, as an analytical tool of the stereotypes, messages and speeches used for the development of the characters Cido (Rafael Zulu) and Raquel (Erika Januza). When analyzing eight chapters of the soap opera available on the Globoplay platform, it was considered that the characters starred in scenes of humiliation, disqualification and dehumanization of the black person, elements sometimes camouflaged by humor and jocularity. This trajectory allowed us to understand, therefore, how the black character represented in the telenovela is still enclosed in stereotypes that are already used by the Brazilian media.en
