In a time of more frequent extreme weather events, an accurate weather forecast can bring benefits that go beyond planning the best position for equipment that uses the forces of nature to produce electricity, but also contribute to the safety of human life. Among the various institutes dedicated to the study and forecasting of the weather around the globe, the Institute of Meteorology of Norway is the one responsible for matters related to the climate in that country, and among its contributions is the numerical weather forecast presented in the format of a 2.5 km grid. Intending to carry out a post-processing that improves the resolution of this forecast and reduces its error, the Institute developed a tool called GRIDPP that downscale the grid to 1 km. The present work aimed to improve the current post-processing approach to air temperature using Neural Networks with measurements from meteorological stations. Two neural network architectures were tested: a Multilayer Perceptron and a Convolutional Neural Network. Both architectures managed to achieve a lower error rate than the original approaches. Among the test samples where the GRIDPP error was greater than 3°C, with 3°C being a critical limit defined by the Institute, the proposed solution achieved a lower error in 74.8% of the cases.en
