Resumo

Brazilian literature on Digital Technologies (DTs) in Mathematics Education is growing without clarifying which understanding of "technology" guides the experiences, which hinders the assessment of coherence between discourse and practice. To address this problem, we analyzed technological conceptions in empirical articles indexed in SciELO. After tracking 174 records, we selected 34 studies (2006–2023) and (i) applied a mixed-method bibliometric analysis to map the publication frequency over the years, the most cited authors, the collaboration network between institutions, and keywords; (ii) processed the full texts in Iramuteq, generating lexical networks that highlighted themes such as "teacher-training," "software-tool," and "mathematicssocial-construction-technology-human-collective-construct," interpreted in light of theoretical frameworks; (iii) finally, we read each article and coded excerpts in a matrix that crossed ten conceptions of Veraszto (2009) with five positions (Absent, Defends punctually, Defends fundamentally, Problematizes punctually, and Problematizes fundamentally), in addition to pedagogical variables that proved diverse across different contexts. We found that among the excerpts criticizing the merely instrumental use of technology, the socio-systemic conception predominates, while more than half still treat technology in an excessively instrumental manner; others reveal universalist or neutralist tendencies, and a few maintain deterministic traits, although this remains a point of concern given the recent impacts of "artificial intelligence" on society. In contexts of poor infrastructure or insufficient teacher training, the operational use of DTs prevails, while projects involving student authorship and community bonds exhibit more systemic and less restrictive conceptions. We conclude that future research should integrate cultural, political, and educational dimensions so that DTs can enhance autonomy and social dialogue in Mathematics Education.
