Based on my experience as a teacher and pedagogical coordinator in the municipal education network of Juiz de Fora, this study aims to present foundations that help answer the following question: How is the identity of black children shaped in the school environment, influenced by whiteness? Based on this question, a brief history of identity and the structural and institutional racism that permeates Brazilian society is outlined, highlighting how racism contributes to the invisibility of black children and highlighting the importance of anti-racist education, influenced by the significant roles of movements black social networks and the innovative reflections of important thinkers (GONZALEZ, 2020; NASCIMENTO, 1978).The authors discuss the possibility of a transformation in education, leading to the implementation of affirmative action policies, in addition to legislation 10.639/03 and 11.645/08 (BRASIL, 2003; BRASIL, 2008; BRASIL, 2012). Regulations regulating Early Childhood Education and Education focused on ethnic-racial relations are mentioned (BRASIL, 2003; BRASIL, 2004; BRASIL, 2008; BRASIL, 2010; BRASIL, 2017). Critical racial literacy (FERREIRA, 2014) is highlighted as fundamental for the ongoing training of educators (SANTOS, 2022), as part of an anti-racist education proposal. With the aim of combating segregation and racism present in educational institutions, educational approaches are suggested that celebrate diversity, in addition to curricula, whiteness and whiteness in childhood (DIANGELO, 2018; HOOKS, 2020; NOGUEIRA, 2014; JANGO, 2017; TRINDADE, 2011; BENTO, 2022)The study also discusses theoretical premises that support the intersection between racism and early childhood education (CAVALLEIRO, 2011; DIAS, 2017; CARDOSO, 2021; LOPES, 1987), also presenting examples of necropolitics and necro infancy that took place in various parts of Brazil. (MBEMBE, 2011; NOGUERA, 2014; CARNEIRO, 2023) Children’s literature is considered a valuable tool to promote anti-racist education. Examples and illustrations of activities carried out in schools that are based on specific works are presented. When examining some publications aimed at young audiences, different ways of representing black characters and African culture were observed, with narratives and images that oscillate between prejudice, racism and stereotypes, as well as approaches that celebrate black bodies, as well as aesthetics and the identity of African and AfroBrazilian cultures (GOMES, 2020; SILVA, 2017; OLIVEIRA, 2020; ROSA, 2021).en
