The research aims to recover the life trajectory and the displacements of the samba player Paulo da Portela around the city and to understand the suburban black intellectuality of Paulo's "busy feet and necks" double that translated into important economic-political and sociocultural gains for the Portela community, the samba world and the carioca suburbs. The research is based on the concepts of cruzo, moyoo, quilombismo, associativism, performance, corporality, oraliture, agency, ancestrality, coloniality, transmodernity, organic intellectuality, and hegemony, which are addressed by the following authors: Luiz Rufino, Leda Martins, Nei Lopes, Abdias Nascimento, Beatriz Nascimento, Alessandra Tavares, Merleau-Ponty, Stuart Hall, Anibal Quijano, Enrique Dussel, and Antonio Gramsci, respectively. The methodology is based on interviews and testimonies of lives held with the members of Portela's departments, photographs, newspaper reports, images of monuments and songs written by the samba dancer and in honor of Paulo da Portela, in addition to other bibliographical research on the samba dancer. Thus, the research allowed us to identify the importance of Paulo's black intellectual protagonism and artistic militancy, which were reflected in intellectual-political legacies of competitiveness, associativism and political and financial self-sustainability for the SSRG Portela, of institutionalization and national reach of samba, and of social integration of the peripheral black layersen
