MATHEMATICS OF MY TIME IN YOUR TIME: SCHOOL MEMORIES NARRATED BY ELDERLY PEOPLE (PIS) It is common to come across people who have experienced, or are experiencing, some situation of aversion to Mathematics and, in some cases, they enter the community through the school environment itself when it plays a role that segregates – at the same time as it is unable to dissipate traditionally rooted prejudices. As a child, culturally, one cannot deal with such events positively, carrying with them and multiplying this feeling of inferiority and impotence, in relation to mathematical science, into adult life. On the other hand, in the Brazilian social context, the number of elderly people in society is increasing year after year – this phenomenon demands conceptual, procedural, and attitudinal changes linked to education, aiming to reintegrate and include them in different social spaces and, in this way, open paths when it comes to solving common problems in everyday life through numeracy practices. Given this, the teaching of Mathematics appears as an important symbolic language despite being one of the main targets, referenced by aversion in all generations. It is understood that in these arrangements and rearrangements of human lives, Mathematics is a formative and interactive knowledge that makes it possible to undertake readings in everyday life and in education. It is understood that analyzing memories can contribute to the configuration of a more inclusive, fair and supportive school and a coherent, socially and culturally referenced and democratic Mathematics. With this, the purpose is to discuss the following questions: What do the PIs have to tell us regarding the pedagogical act in teaching mathematics? What school memories marked your social trajectory? What representations of Mathematics and the Mathematics teacher were socially constructed? To this end, the objective was to investigate, in the narratives of elderly people, social representations of school mathematics about teaching and learning processes, especially regarding memories, situations and contexts of the past and to correlate such memories with their current experiences and how they perceive Mathematics teaching practices and methodologies. Through non-directive interviews via online focus group, with elderly students from UATI/UFCG, about school social memory about mathematics and based on Bakhtinian constructs (BAKHTIN, 2010), in the understanding of Freire (1996) regarding popular education, in the ethnomathematics proposed by D'Ambrósio (1998) and the theory of social representations by Moscovici (2003), it was realized that school memories of Mathematics and the power of open and democratic dialogue can contribute to a process of resignification of the knowledge in the classroom, more inclusive teaching and coherent Mathematics that encourages integration and social protagonist, making it important to discuss the bilaterality of Mathematics in terms of desires, possibilities, specificities, perspectives, challenges and implications in the representations built on the knowledge and social practices of all generations.
