Resumo

In this dissertation, we open dialogues about Yorùbá cosmology inserted in the candomblé terreiro Ilé Àṣẹ Ìṣẹ́ gun Ọdẹ, located in the municipality of Guapimirim, in Rio de Janeiro, to reflect on how Ìtàn (Yorùbá literary genre) and their epistemologies contribute to new ways of being and exist for the black subject who adheres to the cult of òrìṣà. Therefore, we propose a move away from readings based on dualities such as “right” or “wrong” and defend the non-generalization of the knowledge produced in the aforementioned terreiro as unique. With this, we ratify the responsibility and respect towards other candomblé houses and regardless of the differences between their liturgies and African philosophies created and applied. Therefore, we dedicated the study of this dissertation to the exposed Yorùbá concepts, in order to create less reductionist dialogues about the Yorùbá cosmology existing in spiritual/religious practices of Yorùbá origin. With this, it is through the analysis of productions carried out by African and AfroBrazilian researchers dedicated to this theme and with the experiences practiced and produced at Ilé Àṣẹ Ìṣẹ́ gun Ọdẹ that we built a path of convergence, mainly exposing the importance of orality and of ancestral strength in the figure of Ìtàn. The question in Being of Àṣẹ leads us to the premise that something constitutes the black subject who adheres to the cult of òrìṣà and is part of it as a collective. So, we think that the black identity of this participant and his learning in terreiro for the construction of forms of life in which Yorùbá cosmology is present, moves his ancestral power into practices of r-existence, which are not elaborated only in the perspective of suffering and of racism. In this way, we highlight how the Ìtàn and all Yorùbá and terreiro production allow the black subject to build an identity supported and re-signified by the stories of their ancestors and how these help them to build narratives of protagonism and to experience other models of life, of living and being in the world in community.
