A FAVELA CHEGOU: OS NOVOS OLHARES SOBRE FAVELAS E PERIFERIAS NO CINEMA

Abstract

The presente research is focused on the analysis and exhibition of favelado cinema, a film niche that corresponds to the productions and actions carried out by subjects from slums and peripheries, who are dedicated to working in the production of narratives that takes place in the territories of origin, bringing representations about these places that are closer to na ideal of reality, than those that have been presented over the year by cinema. To support this research, we begin by tracing a brief history of the representations of favelas in Rio de Janeiro by national cinema and the impacts of such representations for the construction of imagery and stimas on the black and favela population. In the first chapter we discuss, based on Black Looks by bell hooks, how the construction of these representations takes place in a scenario of war of images, In the second chapter, we get to know the field of favela cinema, seeking to contextualize the scenario that has been forming around these Productions and the social agentes involved. And, finally, in the last chapter we brought the interview with the directors and producers Irmãos Carvalho, twins from Morro do Salgueiro, who brought aspects of favela to the cinema, poorly explored in the Productions that once approached the contexto of Rio’s favelas.

A pesquisa que apresentamos é voltada a análise e exposição do cinema favelado, nicho fílmico que corresponde às produções e ações realizadas por sujeitos oriundos das favelas e periferias, e que se dedicam a atuar na produção de narrativas que se passem nos territórios de origem, trazendo representações sobre esses locais que sejam mais próximas de um ideal de realidade do que as que foram apresentadas ao longo dos anos pelo Cinema. Para subsidiar essa pesquisa, iniciamos traçando um breve histórico das representações de favelas do Rio de Janeiro pelo cinema nacional e os impactos de tais representações para a construção de imaginários e estigmas sobre a população negra e favelada. No primeiro capítulo abordamos, com base em Olhares Negros de bell hooks, como se dá a construção dessas representações em um cenário de guerra de imagens. No segundo capítulo nos voltamos a conhecer o campo do cinema favelado, buscando contextualizar o cenário que vem se formando em torno dessas produções e dos agentes sociais envolvidos. E, finalmente, no último capítulo trouxemos a entrevista com os diretores e produtores Irmãos Carvalho, gêmeos oriundos do Morro do Salgueiro e que trazem no cinema aspectos do Morro, pouco explorados nas produções que outrora abordavam o contexto das favelas cariocas.
