Aiming to discuss the conceptions of Mathematics teachers regarding the terms obstacles, errors and difficulties developed by students during the Algebra learning process, the present study aims to answer the following guiding questions for this research: What are the conceptions of Mathematics teachers about the terms: obstacle, error and difficulty? What reasons and/or origins of errors are identified by mathematics teachers when teaching Algebra? To achieve our objective, we sought to identify and analyze such conceptions through the application of questionnaires and semi-structured and individual interviews with each participating teacher. The theoretical references adopted in this research were based on the works of Gaston Bachelard (1996), who is recognized as a philosopher and epistemologist for his contribution to the introduction of the notion of epistemological obstacle in the teaching of Mathematics. Furthermore, the contributions of Guy Brousseau (1996), a French mathematician notable for his investigations into mathematical didactics, especially the Theory of Didactic Situations, and Gérard Vergnaud (1990), a psychologist and mathematician whose research was fundamental to the development of Conceptual Field Theory. Regarding the questionnaire applied, it was divided into three parts: Part A, which sought to analyze the teacher's profile; Part B, in which we based the work of Gagatsis and Kyriakides (2000) as inspiration for preparing closed questions, using a Likert scale, to understand the reasons for students' errors in the teachers' view. And part C, which consists of open (discursive) questions, in which we report as a basis the work of Kikuchi (2012) to understand, based on student response models in questions involving Algebra, how teachers identify themselves or not the reasons and origins of students' errors and possible difficulties. In relation to the semi-structured interview, the responses were identified and separated into units of analysis and were subsequently categorized based on content analysis according to Bardin (2002). The results of the data analysis indicated that, in general, teachers are not familiar with the concept of obstacle, that is, they are unaware that the obstacle is caused by their own knowledge and attribute the reasons for the occurrence of errors to the student, believing that the main reasons are linked to the lack of knowledge, understanding, interpretation and mastery of basic mathematics content.en
