Resumo

The dissertation "Philosophy and Education in Neoliberal Times" investigates the challenges faced by Philosophy education in Brazil following recent educational reforms, such as the BNCC and the 2017 High School Reform. It argues that the advancement of neoliberalism, with its emphasis on technocracy and productivity, has negatively impacted the humanities, prioritizing utilitarian disciplines over critical thinking and civic education. The work highlights the importance of Philosophy for democratic education and the ethical development of individuals, by investigating fundamental questions concerning existence, knowledge, truth, and morality. Through an analysis of neoliberal logic, which seeks to transform all spheres of social life into commodities (including education), the dissertation discusses strategies to reverse the marginalization of Philosophy and ensure its inclusion in school curricula. The document also emphasizes the role of postgraduate programs in the field, such as PPFEN at CEFET/RJ, as centers of resistance against the instrumentalization of education, aiming to promote a more complete and reflective human formation. Additionally, the research resulted in the development of the "Philosophy and Education in Neoliberal Times Mini-Course," a pedagogical product designed to critically analyze the role of Philosophy education in Brazil in the face of neoliberal educational transformations. This mini course covers the discipline's history, the fundamentals and impacts of neoliberalism on education, and explores strategies for resistance and the reaffirmation of critical and humanistic thought, targeting undergraduate students, Philosophy teachers, other humanities educators, researchers, and other stakeholders interested in the debate on education, society, and neoliberalism.
