MASCULINIDADES NEGRAS: AFETO, REPRESENTAÇÃO E REEXISTÊNCIA NO TRAP CARIOCA

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of the intersections between race, class, and gender found in the lyrics of the Trap musical genre. The focus is on the processes of subjectivation and affective experience among Black men living in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Thus, this work reflects on Black masculinity through the narratives of Black men, countering the distorted representation of white male masculinity as the universal norm. The central objective is to understand, through the analysis of contemporary Trap lyrics, how masculinity is constructed and expressed in these songs, considering both socio-historical stereotypes and whitening processes, as well as contemporary forms of resistance to racial and social oppression, and the reparative reconstruction of masculinity grounded in Afro-Brazilian ancestry.The choice of this approach is based on the relevance of Trap lyrics, which powerfully articulate the lived experiences of Black men from the favelas, functioning both as a reflection of their realities and as a critique of the social structures that marginalize them. The research seeks to understand how Black masculinities and their emotional experiences are represented, and how such representations may influence the identity formation of Black men in the favelas. The adopted approach aims to uncover the nuances of the relationships between race, gender, class, territory, affectivity, and representation, positioning the Black man from the favela at the center of academic and social discourse. Grounded in Bakhtin, the methodology understands these lyrics as utterances traversed by multiple voices, dialogism, and social tensions, revealing conflicts, resistance, and symbolic disputes. To achieve these objectives, an interpretative analysis of contemporary Trap lyrics was conducted, selecting tracks that address racism, the intersections of gender, class, and territory, as well as the emotional experiences of Black men from the favelas. This analysis articulates academic literature with my own experience as a Black man from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar o impacto das intersecções entre raça, classe e gênero que podem ser encontradas nas letras do gênero musical Trap. Temos como foco o processo de subjetivação e experienciação afetiva de homens negros favelados do Rio de Janeiro. Assim, este trabalho reflete sobre masculinidade negra a partir da narrativa de homens negros, contrapondo-se à representação distorcida da masculinidade de homens brancos como a norma universal. O objetivo central é, através da análise das letras de traps contemporâneos, compreender a construção da masculinidade que se expressão através dessas letras, considerando tanto os estereótipos sócio-históricos e processos de embranquecimento, quanto às resistências contemporâneas às opressões raciais e sociais e, também, a reparação de modelos de masculinidade baseados em nossa ancestralidade afro-brasileira. A escolha desta abordagem fundamenta-se na relevância das letras de trap, que articulam de forma potente as vivências de homens negros favelados, funcionando tanto como reflexo de suas realidades quanto como crítica às estruturas sociais que os marginalizam. A pesquisa busca entender como são representadas as masculidades negras e suas experiências emocionais, bem como como tais representações podem influenciar na construção das identidades de homens negros favelados. A abordagem adotada visa desvendar as nuances da relação entre raça, gênero, classe, território, afetividade e representação, posicionando o homem negro favelado no centro do discurso acadêmico e social. Fundamentada em Bakhtin, a metodologia compreende essas letras como enunciados atravessados por múltiplas vozes, dialogismos e tensões sociais, revelando conflitos, resistências e disputas simbólicas. Para alcançar esses objetivos, foi adotada a análise interpretativa das letras de traps contemporâneos, selecionando faixas que abordam o racismo, as intersecções de gênero, classe e território, bem como as vivências emocionais de homens negros favelados. Essa análise articula a literatura acadêmica com a minha própria experiência como homem negro favelado do Rio de Janeiro.
