Currently, it is observed in digital media the existence of a growing number of false news. When considered in the political sphere, is the possibility of dividing a broad public into multiple interest publics a new practice capable of altering voter behavior and the final outcome of elections in representative democracies? This was the initial question that inspired this study. This dissertation is composed by the compilation of three scientific articles, the first being a systematic review of the literature; the second of a descriptive and exploratory nature, with a qualitative approach on disinformation in the municipality of queimados/rj; and the third with a quantitative approach, applying the structural equation modeling technique (sem - structural equation modeling). The results show that the fake news phenomenon has been interfering in political campaigns, electoral processes and citizens' voting intentions in various parts of the world. Specifically in queimados/rj, it was found that misinformation on social networks can affect voters' voting choices, with the actors involved in this practice and the damage caused being described. In addition, it was also found that people who use social networks to pass the time are the most likely to spread false news about politics on social networks. These results can help formulate policies aimed at protecting society from the threat of false news circulating on social networks.en
