A RACIALIZAÇÃO DA CRIANÇA NEGRA ABANDONADA NA PRIMEIRA REPÚBLICA

Abstract

The dissertation analyzes the issue of abandoned black children in Brazil during the First Republic and the racialization of this social category. It considers the formation of Brazilian capitalism and its relations with the slave structure and the racist national project, as well as the transformations of the institutions that took care of abandoned childhood at the end of the nineteenth century and after abolition. One of the most important milestones for this process was the Minors Code and the debates that took place in its enactment in the 1920s. These debates will be analyzed through news from the newspapers A Noite and Correio da Manhã in the period from 1925 to 1927.

A dissertação analisa a questão das crianças negras abandonadas no Brasil, durante a Primeira República, e a racialização dessa categoria social. Considera a formação do capitalismo brasileiro e suas relações com a estrutura escravista e o projeto nacional racista, bem como as transformações das instituições que cuidaram da infância abandonada no final do século XIX e pós-abolição. Um dos marcos mais importantes para esse processo foi o Código de Menores e os debates que transcorreram em sua promulgação na década de 1920. Esses debates serão analisados, através de notícias dos jornais A Noite e Correio da Manhã no período de 1925 à 1927.
