Resumo

The study of the human body is present at various times in school life. Although it is a topic that arouses a lot of interest, the literature identifies difficulties for students to recognize the studied body, as equal to their own body. Among the reasons given for this non-recognition, the fragmented presentation of the human body in science teaching is indicated. These considerations led to the development of the research that resulted in this thesis that has as its theme the study of the human body, in the 16th and 17th centuries, adopting the Cultural History of Sciences as a historiographical approach. In the theoretical part of the research, we carried out a historical study in primary and secondary sources, in order to analyze the scientific practices, social actors and visual culture involved in the construction of scientific knowledge about the human body in the time frame of the so-called Birth of Modern Science . This study generated subsidies for the empirical part of the research, carried out for two consecutive academic years (8th and 9th year) with students from the second segment of Elementary School of the state public network in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The students participating in the research were mostly of African descent. The research was carried out using an adaptation of the action research methodology, which we call historical action research, and sought to bring to the teaching of the Human Body a historicalcultural approach, with a focus on scientific practices, such as public dissections and production of anatomy treatises. In addition, attention was paid to the people who participated in these studies and whose bodies were studied. Over the two years of activities, the main topics covered were: blood circulation, vision, use of lenses and medicinal electricity. The issues highlighted were worked on from individual and group activities, collective discussions and the use of images produced during the period studied. The students brought up issues related to authorship and collective production of scientific knowledge, highlighting the absence of studies, in the historical context discussed, of black and female bodies, as well as the non-participation of women and blacks in scientific work. The discussion of scientific practices and social actors in the construction of knowledge of the human body within the historical perspective allowed reflections with students about the invisible bodies and actors and how the body model studied in that period is still present in the study of the human body in the science teaching. Furthermore, this approach made it possible to bring discussions related to the context of students, showing that the historical approach can be a way to overcome this cultural incompatibility in Science classes.
