Due to the rapid transformations and technological advances that permeate society, there is an opportunity for critical reflection and a new look at methodological strategies that can provide an educational training that prioritizes autonomy, critical and creative thinking, the ability to adapt to technological and social changes, and effective communication skills, as well as problem-solving and collaboration. Based on this demand, this research proposes to investigate the communication, collaboration, critical and creative thinking skills developed in the context of the application of the PBL methodology, in a group of Youth and Adult Education integrated with Professional and Technological Education (EJA-EPT). PBL is an educational approach that integrates theory and practice, in addition to placing the student at the center of the process, encouraging him or her to solve real and complex problems. Based on the question: “To what extent does the practice of the Problem Based Learning methodology provide the development of critical and creative thinking, communication and collaboration skills in first-year mathematics classes at EJA-EPT?”, the main objective of this thesis is to empirically investigate these skills. The context of this study was developed through a qualitative and quantitative approach, based on a case study and participant observation. Data production was carried out through a questionnaire validated throughout the process (applied before and after the methodological intervention), interviews with group leaders and observations made and recorded in audio and notes in the field diary. From the data analysis, it was observed that there was a statistically significant difference, resulting in an improvement as measured by the post-test compared to the pre-test. However, the effect size is moderate. Of the skills presented in the quantitative test, creativity and communication exhibit a moderate effect size, critical thinking presents a high effect size, and collaboration points to a small effect size. When observing the data in the qualitative analysis of the interviews and the field diary, it was found that the skills were present in all cycles of the interventions; however, no robust improvements were observed, which is in line, to a certain extent, with what was observed in the quantitative analysis. Finally, the research does not provide generalizations regarding the use of PBL in EJA-EPT; however, it provides elements that demonstrate that the methodology can enhance the group at certain times, as well as indicating the limits that may be imposed by the specificity of the modality. Among these two pieces of information, the following stand out for potential: involvement in mastering the content, the interest in working, and the alignment with the technical disciplines; on the other hand, we have as limits the lack of recording in the notebook, the long time of intervention in the same subject and some problems with the use of technology.en
