A UTILIZAÇÃO DAS EXPRESSÕES “MOVIMENTO CTS” E “ESTUDOS CTS” EM ARTIGOS DA ÁREA DE ENSINO BRASILEIRA

Abstract

Brazilian research in Science, Technology, and Society (STS) in the educational field (Science Education) has been increasing in quantity and diversity of approaches, both due to the intrinsic complexity of the subject and the unique perspectives and nuances of each study. This growth emphasizes the importance of research that promotes information mapping to contribute to the characterization of this thematic line. In order to better understand the shared concepts regarding the topic, we sought to investigate the usage and assumed concepts for the STS Movement and STS Studies in articles published in education journals that address STS. For this purpose, 367 articles from 30 journals were analyzed, collected between 1982 and 2019, constituting the database of the STS and Education Group at CEFET-RJ. The journals with the highest number of publications within this corpus of analysis include the Brazilian Journal of Science and Technology Education and Science & Education. The geographic origin of the institutional affiliation of the publications reinforces the major participation of the Southeast and South regions of Brazil. Furthermore, we observed a quantitative increase in productions within the analyzed corpus, especially from 2007 onwards. By qualitatively analyzing the terms preceding the STS expression, we find that the terms "Relation" and "Interaction" are very generic and are not used as conceptual and/or theoretical descriptors. CTSA is commonly used to emphasize the environmental dimension and showed strong representativeness in the analyzed articles, indicating a highly relevant topic within the STS research community. Throughout the study, we provide examples of highlighted excerpts from the articles that were considered as conceptualization for the two focal points of analysis: the STS Movement and STS Studies. Regarding the STS Movement, we mapped 20 articles that effectively conceptualize the Movement and highlight the presence of aspects such as a broad political and social movement with non-neutrality principles of ST, as a field of research and interdisciplinary in nature. In our analysis of STS Studies, we identified 19 articles that conceptualize them, highlighting relevant characteristics such as the social dimension of ST and STS Studies as an academic field. We also recognize a possible greater focus on technology when compared to science and society in the significant excerpts of articles on STS Studies. It is worth noting that out of the 164 articles, approximately 44% of the analyzed corpus do not present any of these two expressions, which indicates an important data and raises some questions that are listed at the end of the study. Thus, there is still a certain imprecision in the use of concepts and assumed principles for the STS Movement or STS Studies in many of the works that address STS in the Brazilian education field.

As pesquisas brasileiras em Ciência, Tecnologia e Sociedade (CTS) no campo educacional (Educação em Ciências) vêm aumentando em quantidade e diversidade de abordagens, tanto pela complexidade intrínseca ao tema, como pelos próprios olhares e nuances de cada trabalho. Tal crescimento ressalta a importância de pesquisas que promovam mapeamentos de informações que contribuam para a caracterização dessa linha temática. Para uma melhor compreensão a respeito dos conceitos compartilhados sobre o tema, buscamos investigar o uso e os conceitos assumidos para Movimento CTS e Estudos CTS em trabalhos publicados em periódicos da área de Ensino que abordam CTS. Para isso, foram utilizados 367 artigos, contidos em 30 revistas, coletados entre 1982 e 2019, constituintes do banco de dados do Grupo CTS e Educação do CEFET-RJ. Os periódicos com mais publicações considerando esse corpus de análise incluem a Revista Brasileira de Ensino de Ciência e Tecnologia e Ciência & Educação. A origem geográfica do vínculo institucional das publicações reforça a participação majoritária das regiões Sudeste e Sul do Brasil. Ainda, percebemos uma evolução quantitativa ascendente de produções no corpus analisado, em especial, a partir de 2007. Analisando qualitativamente os termos precedentes à expressão CTS, temos que: os termos Relação e Interação são muito genéricos e não são utilizados como descritivos conceituais e/ou teóricos; CTSA é comumente utilizado para enfatizar a dimensão ambiental e apresentou forte representatividade nos artigos analisados, o que indica um tema bastante relevante dentro da comunidade de pesquisadores CTS. Ao longo do trabalho, exemplificamos os trechos destacados dos artigos que foram considerados como de conceituação para os dois focos de análise: Movimento CTS e Estudos CTS. Em relação ao Movimento CTS, mapeamos 20 artigos que conceituam efetivamente o Movimento e destacamos a presença de aspectos, como: um movimento político-social amplo, com princípios de não-neutralidade da CT, como uma área de pesquisa e estudos e de caráter interdisciplinar. Em nossa análise para os Estudos CTS, identificamos 19 artigos que os conceituam, evidenciando como características relevantes: a dimensão social de CT e os Estudos CTS como um campo acadêmico. Reconhecemos, também, um possível foco maior em tecnologia quando comparado à ciência e à sociedade nos trechos significativos dos artigos sobre Estudos CTS. Vale destacar que dos 164 artigos, aproximadamente 44% do corpus analisado não apresenta nenhuma dessas duas expressões, o que nos indica um dado importante e levanta alguns questionamentos que são elencados ao final do trabalho. Assim, percebe-se, ainda, certa imprecisão no uso dos conceitos e princípios assumidos para o Movimento CTS ou para Estudos CTS em muitos dos trabalhos que tratam de CTS na área de Ensino brasileira.
