This research investigates how academic curricula for Medical Residency in Psychiatry, as recommended by the National Medical Residency Commission (CNRM), address racial issues. The research examines the extent to which the practice of psychiatrists and psychiatry students align with the official curricula concerning the health and well-being of Black patients. Additionally, the study analyzed the tools and methodologies offered to these residents during the teaching and learning process regarding ethnic and racial relations. Informed by scholarly production about race, racism, and whiteness and the DCNs of Psychiatry, the study comprised the analysis of answers to an online questionnaire, structured with 14 close and open-ended questions and applied to 83 psychiatrists and students of psychiatry. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics in absolute and relative terms. The results show that despite the official guidelines that identifies the impact of racism on mental health, psychiatrists in training often overlooked the intersection of racism with the problems that led patients to seek psychiatric care. The analysis also points to how residents and psychiatrists disregard ethnic and racial approaches to healthcare and to how racism can act as a trigger of mental disorders. The study concludes by suggesting that the omission of racism in healthcare practices reflects a curricular structure embedded in racist biases and rooted in the privileging of whiteness. By perpetuating the white patient as a universal paradigm in the teaching and learning process, this omission reproduces the erasure, silencing, exclusion and the suffering of Black patients.en
