Resumo

This dissertation aimed to develop a theoretical and empirical research that would build subsidies to understand how the historical-cultural study of the scientific practice of recording total eclipses, at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, can enable reflections about the participation and visibility of the work of different social actors in science. For that, theoretical research was carried out, in primary and secondary sources, regarding the episode of the 1919 Sobral Eclipse, in the light of the historiographical aspect of the Cultural History of Science. Concomitantly, an empirical research was carried out in physics classes in a first-year high school class in a federal public school located in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The research methodology used was an adaptation of action research, historical action research, which considers the voices of the subjects involved in the research in all of its stages. Through the interventions provided by historical action research, the historical-cultural approach enabled discussions about the participation of different social actors in the construction of scientific knowledge, focusing on those who were essential, but made invisible in scientific and historical documents. This approach also allowed for reflections on the purpose of funding science, the lack of female participation in the historical episode focused on, and how the exchange of knowledge between different people, from different professions and cultures is part of scientific practice. In addition, the problematizations regarding the power relations that are instilled in science made it possible to deal with aspects of the Nature of Science aiming at Social Justice.
