| dc.description.abstract | The thesis investigates the impact of Open Access (OA) on collaboration in Brazilian academic publications, comparing OA and non-OA models between 2017 and 2020. Drawing on data from Scopus and employing social network analysis, it examines coauthorship structures in relation to publication model, funding sources, publisher, disciplinary field, and authors’ countries. The findings indicate that OA articles tend to involve a greater number of authors and exhibit denser collaborative networks, particularly in the Life Sciences, Health Sciences, and Exact Sciences. In contrast, Social Sciences display fewer authors per article but more interconnected networks. Article Processing Charges (APCs) segment scholarly output and foster international collaborations by enabling cost-sharing mechanisms. However, reliance on APCs reveals structural imbalances in the funding of graduate programs, disproportionately affecting those with lower academic ratings. The study concludes that OA, by repositioning the author as a consumer, reshapes patterns of scientific collaboration and challenges the sustainability of academic practice in Brazil. | en |
| pt |
